Reliving the Past, Rewriting the Story: A Newfound Joy in Career Coaching

My Original Passion About Career Coaching

When I first started my career coach journey, I was driven by the idea of using my own experiences—both the wins and the struggles—to help others navigate their career paths. The thought that I could make a positive impact on someone's life, that I could help them grow with insights I had earned over the years, gave me a deep sense of purpose. That passion is still going strong.

The New Continent

Over time, I’ve discovered a new, unexpected layer of why I love career coaching. It's like I found a "new continent".

It didn’t hit me all at once. It came gradually, through sessions with some clients who brought stories to the table that sounded familiar. A career pivot that didn’t go as planned. A toxic manager who drained their confidence. The excitement of a new opportunity that came with unexpected doubts.

These were more than just anecdotes. They were echoes of my own past. I saw traces of myself in those stories. Suddenly, I wasn’t just helping them. I was reliving my own journey.

And in doing so, I found something healing and powerful. When I see someone facing a career moment that mirrors something I once went through, I get to walk alongside them as they figure it out. But here’s the thing: this time, I'm looking at the situation at a whole new level comparing to myself in the past. I get to bring awareness, clarity, calm, and wisdom to the situation—something I wish I had back then. It’s like getting a second chance to handle those chapters of my life with more awareness and confidence, even if it's through someone else.

Rediscovering My Past and Connecting with the Younger Self

This kind of nostalgia isn’t just sentimental. It’s revelation. And it’s made me appreciate career coaching in a way I hadn’t anticipated. I now see it not only as a way to give back but as a way to grow forward.

It has become a mirror, which shows me how far I’ve come, and reminding me that the challenges I once faced weren’t just obstacles, but building blocks for someone else’s breakthrough.

Career coaching has always been about helping others find clarity and confidence. But now I realize it’s also helping me reconnect with the younger self and write a better next chapter for it.
